QEH is a tertiary referral center, teaching hospital and trauma center. There is an average of more than 10,000 surgical emergency admissions per year. As the society is now having an aging population; elderly surgical patients are becoming more common. In the past few years, QEH surgical unit had performed the largest number of laparotomy in elderly patients aged above 90 years old. However, to operate on elderly in this extreme spectrum of life is regarded as very high risk operation and it is of doubtful survival benefit. As a result, we had collected our data with this unique characteristic and made an objective analysis.
