Yuyuan Garden & Bazaar
The Yuyuan Garden is perhaps the best example of classical gardens in Shanghai. Built in 1559, or the 38th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Ming, the garden is laid out in an intricate manner. As a paragon of the south Chinese landscaping style of the Ming and Qing dynasties, it is a must for all visitors to Shanghai. The neighboring Yuyuan Bazaar, known among old-timers as "Old City God's Temple Market", is a rising tourist destination and shopping center where visitors invariably find a discovery of local folklore and Ming and Qing architecture.

   

 
   

Temple of Jade Buddha
The Yufo (Jade Buddha) Temple was built in 1882. After all these years it remains in perfect condition as a sanctuary of Zen Buddhism. The temple derived its name from a jade statue of Sakyamuni from Myanmar. The image of the Buddha, his graceful posture, and the serene and calm look on his face are, to put it just in one word, mesmerizing.

 
 

The Bund
The picturesque Bund, extending for 1.5 km on the shore of the Huangpu River, is an emblem of Shanghai. The wide riverfront promenade along the eastern side of the Bund provides a captivating view of Shanghai; there is a total of 52 buildings of various heights towering over the river along the western side of the Bund. The Bund has the best nocturnal scene to offer when the lights are turned on between 19:00 and 21:00.

    
 
   

Huangpu River Cruise
Cruising down Huangpu River, Shanghai's mother river, is a wonderful experience. The cruise begins at the Bund and slowly cruises toward the Nanpu Bridge. At the bridge, the ship makes a u-turn and passes under the Yangpu Bridge. The ship then cruises to the Wusong Kou before returning to the Bund. Wusong Kou is the confluence of the Huangpu and Yangtze Rivers, and the East China Sea. During flood season, the yellow water of the Yangtze River meets the green water of the East China Sea and since the two waters are so distinct, you can watch the two colors flow side by side.
 

Yangpu & Nanpu Bridges
Both the Yangpu and Nanpu bridges cross the Yangtze River. They play an important role in connecting Shanghai's old city and the Pudong area. They are 7,658 and 8,346 meters long respectively, and are among the longest bridges in the world. Both bridges offer sidewalks and elevators for visitors.

    
 
   

Longhua Temple
Built during the Five Dynasties, the Longhua Temple is the most venerated and the largest temple in Shanghai. Apart from its long history, the allure of the temple also lies in the Longhua Pagoda and the peach blossoms in its courtyard.
 

"Pedestrians Only" Nanjing Road
Flanked on both sides by famed shopping centers, department stores, specialty stores, exotic restaurants, cultural, and recreational facilities, the 5 km long Nanjing Road is the most sophisticated shopping and tourist complex in Shanghai. The Oriental Pearl TV Tower
The "Oriental Pearl" TV Tower is a newer landmark in Shanghai which faces the Bund across the Huangpu River at Lujiazui, the busiest part of Pudong. At a height of 468 meters, it is the tallest TV tower in Asia. An elevator whisks visitors to the tower's observational deck at a height of 263 meters, where they can feast their eyes on a panoramic view of Shanghai. The tower is equipped with tourist service facilities, including eateries, shops, recreational centers and a hotel.
 

People's Square
People's Square is a spectacular space in the heart of the city. It is a garden-type open space surrounded by buildings and facilities for administration, cultural activities, transportation and commerce. The People's Park, People's Mansion and Shanghai Museum all sit on the grounds. The total area covers up to 1,806,600 square meters. The central square is arranged with a 320 sq meter water fountain, a Shanghai map and the ground is laid with granite stone. A stroll on the square enables one to gain perspective on the modern chic and refined elegance of Shanghai and its people.

    
 
   

Shanghai Museum
Shanghai Museum at the People's Square is in the possession of a collection of 123,000 cultural artifacts in 21 categories; bronze ware, ceramics, calligraphy and painting are its forte. A vast collection of exhibits, world-class architecture, and high-tech facilities explain why the Shanghai Museum attracts visitors who come in a constant stream from every nook and cranny of the world.
 

Shanghai History Museum
The Shanghai History Museum is dedicated to the history of the city of Shanghai located in Pudong. The museum's exhibition focuses on approximately 100 years in the history of Shanghai from the opening of the port in 1843 to its liberation in 1949.

    
 

   

Shanghai Art Museum
The new Shanghai Art Museum is on the former site of the Shanghai Library, just behind the Grand Theater and at the northwest corner of People's Park. The area was once a clubhouse in the 1930s for old Shanghai's sports groups, including the Shanghai Race Club sporting the famous clock tower "Big Bertle". The beautifully restored building is the reason enough alone to visit. It is so fabulous from the majestic view of the building, outside, to the regal looking décor, inside. The museum is a mixture of the classic and the stylish. The top floor restaurant boasts great views of the square.
